Photo Samples

Good quality pictures and description will help me capture the character of a beloved animal, family member or friend. The need for good reference photos is a necessity, when a portrait is being ordered via the internet or by mail.

Normally, I like to go out to the client's home and photograph the animal or subject I intend to draw. However, there are situations in which I am unable to do so. So, I have compiled the following list of guidelines when sending in reference photo(s).

 •  Please try to send 3 to 4 photographs of each subject.

 •  Please try to send pictures in 4 x 6 format.

 •  Try to send one close up of head(s). If possible send a few with different angles of the subject.

 •  Please indicate on the back of the photos or on separate paper, which photo depicts the subject's eyes and coloring the best.

 •  Please make sure all pictures are at EYE LEVEL. The eyes are most important feature of any portrait.

 •  Avoid sending photos that have bright sunlight, flash photography, red eye or unnecessary shadows on the subject.

 •  Try taking pictures outside or near window where natural light is coming in. Early morning and late afternoon light are particular good times to take pictures because the light is softer.

 •  Please try to make sure the light comes from the same direction on any photos you want combined.

 •  If you want more than one subject in a single drawing, include one or two photos of the subjects together side by side.

 •  Please do not include subject with backlighting unless it is a particular effect you want.

 •  If you want a full-body portrait done, please make sure there are several poses included in the reference photos.

 •  If the photograph is an original and you would like it returned, please indicate it on the order form.

I CANNOT work from studio or professional photographs, unless you provide a signed release from the photographer. I can work from black and white photos, if you give me a detail description of the subject.
